I used to read a book a week but now with life being so busy, I must admit that week became a month, then a season. Which is a great shame because I have read some books that have had a positive effect on my life.
In my experience self-help books can be productive but only if you are in the right space, I don’t know about you but when it comes to self-help books they feel like a chore.
Suddenly it is no longer a peaceful pastime but more a harrowing pressurised session and that’s not because I did not want help myself but rather the assumption that I was able to use a general technique to solve things that I was or was not aware of.
Of course, these books are ideal for some readers but just not for me.
It was by sheer accident (or fate) that I discovered that there are books that can help you without putting your emotions in a whirlwind whilst digging for issues.
Many years ago, I bumped into a very old friend, she had just had her baby and said she was returning to the area to be near her mother. After a ridiculous number of cups of tea, we decided to catch up later that evening and she popped round mine.
Sipping on wine, we spoke about our lives since we last met up and I learned that we had experienced almost identical things, our daughters were 18 months apart (mine eldest) and had the same name although it was pronounced differently. The similarities went on through the night and soon it was time for my guest to go.
Still thinking about the coincidences of the day before, I noticed that my friend had left her book.
After a few days of looking at the dogeared book on my windowsill, I decided to have a look.
The Celestine Prophecy
This book is incredible, it feeds the souls. Now I know that may sound patronising, but I am telling you the truth. Written as a fiction book, this book takes you on an adventurous and inspirational journey of spiritual insights. It does not take long before you find yourself using the knowledge from the insights of the prophecy in your everyday life, some with surprising results. The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield was a life-changing book for me, it helped me through some rough times.
It is easy to read if you are like me that you will not be able to put it down. It is without a doubt, a must-read. There is also a film which is good but, in my opinion, the book is the better option.
There is also an experimental book which was published following The Celestine Prophecy, I have not read it and so cannot comment but I have added a link here.
A hugely popular book, The Secret was and still is a success book and documentary.
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne is contributed to by a number of experts in various relevant fields, teaches and demonstrates the concept of the Law of Attraction in a relaxed yet informative manner.
Published in a handy size, the knowledge held in this book is potentially worth a million times the cost of the book. Read the book and watch the documentary. I have added the trailer if you’re curious.

Ask and It is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires
Ask and It is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires is by Esther and Jerry Hicks and Abraham. Abraham is terrestrial being who channels through Esther and Jerry Hicks. The book’s objective is to teach us, humans, how to manifest in this dimension, by using in the correct alignment – amongst other things. What is the correct alignment? Well, Abraham teaches you that also with the help of translations by Esther and Jerry Hicks. It uses a concept similar to the Law of Attraction, the style of technique is Ask, Believe, Receive. Esther and Jerry Hicks are not new names, they have written numerous books as well as holding popular workshops. I must admit this book was not as easy a read as the previous two books mentioned, however it is definitely one of those books that I often think back on for assistance in making a decision. A sure must-read.
Here are a few other books
that i am glad i have read
The One Minute Millionaire
The One Minute Millionaire by Mark Victor Hansen is a wealth creation inspiration book, but wow does it inspire. A fictions book with a two-way reading layout, it certainly gets your creative mind ticking and everything seems possible. The story begins with a woman who is down on her luck and meets a character who introduces her to a group of positive, creative and motivated people and this is where her journey begins. A truly motivating and thought poking book, read it and you’ll understand what I mean.
